Trinidad and Tobago Police Chief maintains stance
POLICE Commissioner Trevor Paul has maintained that a telephone call was made to the Judiciary minutes before a High Court judge ordered police officers on Friday not to execute a warrant on Chief Justice Satnarine Sharma at his Maraval home.
However, Paul refused to go into any details about the matter and did not make public any evidence he had in the matter, choosing instead to simply make a statement on the matter.{{more}}
On Saturday, Paul had alleged that Justice of Appeal Stanley John telephoned a judge who ordered the police officers not to execute the warrant on Sharma at his home.
On Sunday, Justice John said he did not telephone any judge on the matter.
John said he had to “place on record that I never made a call to any judge, nor did I speak with any judge.
“Further, I never intervened in any way to prevent the arrest of the Chief Justice”.
Tuesday night, in a hurriedly-called news conference at the Police Administration building in Port-of-Spain, Paul said that based on information he had, “at 6.52 p.m. a telephone call was made to the Judiciary.
“I can confirm at exactly that time, Justice Stanley John called ACP Clive Reyes to the telephone to take a call from Justice Judith Jones, who was already on the line”.
