Hailing from the Old Montrose vicinity, Starlift seemed to be the crowd favourite from the moment their name was announced. Decked in shiny silver outfits, the band fed off the crowd’s energy, which attributed to their splendid performance. From the tenor pan to the bass, each instrument was played with perfect tone and tenacity.
The Junior Pan Champs belted out Alston “Becket” Cyrus’ song, “Wine down Kingstown” as the crowd gyrated and sang along to the melodious sounds.
Last year’s champion, Sion Hill Euphonium was not to be forgotten by any means, the group placed a creditable second with the Winston Soso number “Longer Jamming”. It was tough to decide who was the clear-cut winner since the competition was tight and keenly contested.
The Girls’ High School gave a remarkable account of themselves and they placed third. The other competitors were the Adelphi Secondary School, Union Island Secondary, St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, CW Prescod Primary School and North Leeward Superstars.
