Literacy crusade on the move in SVG

19.MAY.06

The flagship of the education revolution, the National Literacy Crusade, is gaining momentum. The latest strategic intervention by the crusade headquarters is a national mobilization, sensitization, and consolidation programme dubbed “Operation Mop-up.” This face-to-face field operation is already meeting its objectives and reaping benefits. So far, rallies in Bequia, Mesopotamia, Biabou, Vermont, Sharpes and Langley Park have seen the turnout of hundreds of people participating in this mobilization programme.{{more}}

The National Director of the National Adult Literacy Crusade, Hugh Wyllie has expressed his pleasure with the participation of the Parliamentary Representatives in their respective zones. Learners, facilitators, sponsors, well-wishers and staff at the crusade headquarters have also been in attendance. Close to 3,000 learners throughout the state are being taught by nearly 300 facilitators. With rallies getting larger and keener interest shown towards the programme, more rallies will be held in this month. Rallies will be held in May on the 26th in Colonarie, 27th in Rose Hall, and the 29th at Her Majesty’s Prison in Kingstown.

In June, the Zone 6 march and rally will be held at Buddy Gutter on the 7th and Largo Height the 12th. This mobilisation programme will culminate in Canouan on the 15th.
