Prime Minister Dr.Ralph Gonsalves wrote his name in the annals of history when he received the fifth Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID) Democracy Prize award.

The Democracy Prize was presented to him on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at the El Caribe Country Club, Brooklyn New York.Compliments were paid to him by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, New York’s Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, Senator Charles Schumer, President of Brooklyn Borough, Marty Markowitz and Baroness Valerie Amos, Leader of the British House of Lords.

Dr. Gonsalves said he felt humbled to have received such a prestigious award.

“In truth, it belongs not so much to me but to the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines who have moulded me.”
