Bequia aged feast at Christmas

More than 50 senior citizens started the New Year with a sumptuous, seasonal dinner organized by Bequia Rotary Club.

The annual Christmas dinner was held on January 1 this year at the Bequia Rotary Centre in Lower Bay and participants dined on soup followed by chicken and beef with macaroni pie and a variety of vegetables and salads, rounded off with cake and ice cream. Each senior citizen also went home with a food parcel.{{more}}

This year’s luncheon – the 15th year in succession that the Bequia Rotary Club have held the event – was sponsored by The Bequia Social Organisation of Canada – who sent two barrels of foodstuff, The Friendship Bay Hotel, Knight’s Supermarket. Knights Trading, Euro Shopper and Julie’s Guest House.

“The event is about social renewal – giving the old folks, who might not get together very much, the chance to meet up, renew friendships and socialize,” explained Bequia Rotary Club president, Clayton Ollivierre.

“It was an exciting and successful occasion. It was a delight to see the island’s older folk enjoying themselves. Several of them made speeches of gratitude, which were very moving, explaining how much they look forward to the event every year.”

The Bequia Rotary Club have already begun their next venture – fund raising to replace the roof of their centre after it received hurricane damage twice last year.
