SVG hosts Insurance Conference next week

Over 80 persons from around the Caribbean have so far indicated their intention to attend the 8th Insurance Education Conference of the Association of Insurance Institutes of the Caribbean to be held here next week from November 2 to 5, 2005.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines chapter of the Association will be hosting the conference under the theme, ‘Disaster Preparedness: My Responsibility; Your Responsibility; Our Responsibility’. {{more}}

Cecil Mc Kie, the conference chairman, indicated to Searchlight Business, that this is the first time SVG will be hosting this rotational education conference. The conference will examine topics such as Natural disasters and their impact on Life, Health and Property Insurance companies in the region; Sources of potential disaster in the Caribbean region – hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, volcanic eruption and flood, other disasters such as plane crash and pollution; disaster preparedness and mitigation; the role of the State and Insurance companies in the mitigation of disasters.

Mc Kie extended an invitation to all Vincentians to attend the conference and indicated that they will be better off for doing so. Jokingly, he also promised to capitalize on this tourism opportunity and stated that he will be offering the usual warm Vincentian hospitality to his Caribbean insurance colleagues.

The conference committee is also producing a high quality magazine which promises to be a collector’s item. The publication will feature articles by key officials in the various Ministries and the insurance sector.

The Association of Insurance Institutes of the Caribbean is an association of insurance companies in the English speaking Caribbean whose objective is to promote the development of insurance practitioners in the region through constant education. President Ruth Lake of St. Lucia who has recently been returned as President of the Association expressed delight at the arrangements put in place for the conference.

The SVG chapter of the Association is headed by Yvonne Williams of CLICO International General Insurance Ltd. The conference venue will be the Methodist Church Hall, Kingstown.
