Investment decisions

When deciding where to invest, consider the following:

Risk – Possibility that the actual rate of return will differ from expected

Return – Look at total return income in form of interest and dividends and capital gains

Liquidity – Ability to convert to cash as and when required without much loss

Cost – Fees for buying and selling and minimum investment requirements

Diversification – Do not put all our eggs in one basket!

Taxes – Some investments may be tax advantaged

Effort & Expertise – How much time and expertise is required – invest in mutual funds as opposed to stocks and bonds
