SVG Credit Union Movement to celebrate with week of activities

Over 40,000 members of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Credit Union Movement will join co-operators around the world in celebrating Credit Union Week from Sunday, October 16 to Saturday, October 22.

To mark this event, a week of activities has been planned under the theme: “Credit Unions: Members Make It Happen.” The theme focuses on the foundation of the credit union structure, its members, and captures the important role that members play in helping credit unions promote economic, social and democratic development.{{more}}

The week’s activities will begin with credit union members worshipping together in a special service at the Kingstown Methodist Church on Sunday, October 16. Later that day, at 10:30 a.m. a panel discussion will be broadcast live on the Issue-At-Hand Programme on WE FM Radio, and carried simultaneously on NBC Radio 705. Discussions will focus on the theme: “The Role That The Credit Union Sector Has Played In Alleviating Poverty in St. Vincent and the Grenadines Since Its Inception.”

A major highlight of the Credit Union Week of activities will be the convening of a National Convention of credit unions on Thursday, October 20, at the Catholic Pastoral Centre from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. During the convention, credit union members, volunteers, management and staff would examine the strategies required for credit unions to be maintained as primary financial service providers for their members in an open economy. Isaac Solomon, Resident Representative of the ECCB, will deliver the keynote address on the theme “Meeting the Needs of Members in a Changing Socio-Economic and Regulatory Environment.”

International Credit Union Day will be observed on Thursday, October 20, and credit unions would be taking time to pay tribute to their members for their commitment and support to credit union development over the past year.
