Inter-Island Trading is DHL new local agent

The global market leader in international express, air and ocean freight, overland transport and logistics has changed its local agent. The new DHL agent is Inter-Island Trading Ltd., a customs brokerage firm established here since 1998. The change came into effect on June 24.

“I was approached.” This, in response to a question about how Inter-Island was able to win the agency. {{more}} Manager, Camille Peters wants it made clear that Inter-Island did not take the agency away from the previous local agent, who had held the agency for over 10 years. “They (DHL) investigated. They came and saw about three or four persons, they had reports. What I think they liked most (about us) was the building.”

And, according to Peters, customers can look forward to a more efficient and professional service from them. Inter-Island has employed three new persons, who along with an Operations Manager, will dedicate their time to ensuring that customers are always satisfied. She intends to make DHL more visible in St. Vincent and she is striving to make the company “as big

as it is in Europe.”

Their rates, she said are “much cheaper” than the competition. She also promises a quicker turn around time for packages, than had obtained in the past. She gave the example of a package they recently received here in St. Vincent two days after the package left Japan. “I think in the past the packages used to take longer. But the system is running differently now,” she added.

DHL has two daily flights into St. Vincent, and Peters promises that packages will be delivered as soon as they arrive, even if it is on Saturday. “For businesses that are open on Saturday, and we have packages for you, we will deliver them. DHL doesn’t normally open on Saturdays in other countries, but we will be offering that service. We don’t know how important the package is… even if the package is for Georgetown, and you want the package, we will deliver.”

Inter-Island is also offering to pick up your packages to have them shipped. Their deadline time for packages going out of the country is 2 p.m, Mondays to Thursdays and 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. They currently have two vehicles on the road, and Peters said that as soon as business picks up they will increase that number.

DHL had revenues of nearly EUR 24.5 billion in 2004, and is present in 170 countries around the world. They currently employ over 16,000 persons and are the third largest express service provider in the USA.
