80 teachers trained in Disaster Management
Eighty teachers have been trained in Disaster Management and on how to prepare a school disaster plan.
The course, which was organised by the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO), conducted the workshops in May and June.{{more}}
They were aimed at giving secondary and primary school educators the concept of disaster management and its importance to national development.
National Disaster Co-ordinator Howie Prince said the teachers were required to develop a disaster plan for their schools and test their effectiveness through regular simulation exercises involving staff and students.
The teacher-training workshop forms part of NEMOâs public education programme funded by the World Bank. It aims to sensitize administrators, business leaders, schools and the general public on the social and economic impacts of disasters.
