Calvert gone to higher calling

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is mourning the loss of yet another son of the soil.

Calvert Louie Woods died on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the age of 40. He succumbed to a virulent form of cancer, in what some might term, a flash.{{more}}

Calvert was a very active member of the Vincentian society whose contributions will be sorely missed.

He was husband to Lydia, father to Cadia, a student at the Girls’ High School, Precious and Angel, students at the St. Mary’s RC School; a teacher to hundreds of Vincentian students, a trade unionist, coach and sports administrator.

It will be hard to find a Vincentian who knew Calvert who would deny his immense capacity for work, eagerness of spirit and genuine commitment. Once he gave his word, one could consider it done, even if it may have been a little late. In a sense, it was not an easy thing for Calvert to refuse an opportunity to help.

He was blessed with an infectious personality that was given to making those around him happy. In the midst of many an argument, one would see the gleam in his eye, looking for someway to inject a little humour and then he would walk away, still a friend to all.
