Ten beauties to battle in Miss Carival pageant Friday night

With 10 diverse young women in the line-up, this year’s Miss Carival pageant should not be missed.{{more}}

The show is scheduled for this Friday and will see Shara George, Miss St Vincent and the Grenadines 2013, competing against nine other contestants from across the Caribbean.

George is truly an all-rounder, with five years of Shotokan Karate under her belt and freelancing as a make-up artist. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and believes that life is not for the timid.

The nine other contestants include Miss Barbados Dannyele Teneel Leslie; Miss British Virgin Islands Sharie de Castro; Miss Dominica Leslassa Armour-Shillingford; Miss Dominican Republic Rosa Martinez; Miss Jamaica Kabreena Robinson; Miss St Kitts and Nevis Zinga Imo; Miss St Lucia Janelle Desir; Miss Trinidad and Tobago Janelle Thongs and Miss Venezuela Yaimer Armes.

The contestants arrived here in SVG yesterday, and immediately started their packed schedule, which includes a motorcade from Kingstown to Calliaqua, various interviews and rehearsals and visits to some of the country’s prominent sites.

Barbados’ Dannyele Teneel Leslie has an extensive pageant career and aspires to become a diplomat. Currently, the August born beauty has an Associate’s degree in Law and Spanish for Business and Tourism, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Law and Political Science.

Sharie de Castro is very passionate about youth development, particularly an initiative titled “Save the Seed”. Castro, who is also known as “The Watchman,” is an acclaimed poet in her country and aspires to be one of the youngest published authors in the British Virgin Islands.

19-year-old Leslassa Armour-Shillingford has been a vegetarian all her life. She overcame scoliosis after being diagnosed with it at a young age and is now a part-time dance teacher at two leading institutions in Dominica.

Miss Dominican Republic Rosa Martinez not only has beauty, but brains to go along with it. Martinez, a professional model who loves fashion, photography and travelling, obtained a computer technician’s degree at the tender age of 16, at the Belisario Peguero School.

Kabrena Robinson had a passion for writing clubs and public speaking at an early age. As a result, she aspires to become a sucessful media personality and intends to enroll at the University of the West Indies in September, where she will pursue a degree in Mass Communication.

“To achieve great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan but also believe” is the motto that Zinga Imo chooses to live by. As a firm believer in the importance of being involved in an extra curricular activity, the 18-year-old enjoys dancing, singing, swimming and reading.

22-year-old Janelle Desir hopes to establish a centre in St Lucia for young women who get pregnant as teenagers and cannot afford to care for the baby. Her passion stems from being raised by a single parent and she believes that a happy and healthy mother will raise a happy and healthy child.

Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Janelle Thongs volunteers at the Trinidad and Tobago Society for the Protection of Cruelty against Animals. It is no surprise then, that Thongs is currently pursuing a major in Biology and a minor in Zoology at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus.

Venezuelan Yaimer Armes enjoys modelling, dancing, extreme sports and exercise. The 21-year-old beauty has a variety of modelling experience and is very involved with social work in her country. She believes that the construction of a better world begins with every individual and so it is important to help one another.

Miss Carival 2012 was won by Miss St Lucia, Roxanne Didier-Nicolas. (BK)
