For the first time in the competition, the school which produces the winner with the top performance in the competition, slated for Tuesday, June 28, will be rewarded with a top brand desk top computer, with the top artiste taking home a digital camera.
Courts Marketing Officer Alexis John, who developed the latest initiative to the competition, said that his company was extremely delighted to be a part of the Junior Calypso/ Soca Monarch competition.
âOur involvement is geared towards rewarding excellence. We are fully aware that this competition has been the foundation for a number of top artistes. This is where they all got started. We want all to see this as a huge incentive for stakeholders to work harder to improve the competition through their performance.â
John also stressed that âCourts is known to be an education partner in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and by awarding a new computer to the winning school reinforces our commitment to add value to our educational institutionsâ educational programmes and operationsâ.
Chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Ashford Wood lauded the initiative as a beautiful one that fits into what the Corporation is doing for the young artistes and their schools.
âCDC is providing the monies and trophies, and this donation of a computer and camera gives the school a chance to benefit.
âWe embrace this initiative and congratulate Courts for this. We hope other businesses will come on board and follow suit in a similar manner,â Wood said.
A total of 19 young artistes will be competing for top honors in the primary and secondary calypso categories, as well as the soca category.
