Nine vie for Miss Heritage Pageant crown

Nine students have made the final cut of the National Secondary Schools Miss Heritage Pageant, after stiff competition in the Preliminary rounds, held on Saturday, May 14, at the Grenadine House.{{more}}

The lucky nine were picked from a group of 12, who participated in media interviews and a talent showcase.

The nine young ladies are: Beverna Simmons of the George Stephens Senior Secondary School; Chelsia Burke of the Georgetown Secondary School; Clairessa Jacobs of the Intermediate High School; Precious Abraham of the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown; Turphanie Davis of the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua; Anya Frederick of the Girls’ High School; Jonique Chance of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School; Britany John of the Union Island Secondary School; and Lystra Burgin of the West St. George Secondary School.

Those not making the cut were Monize Gordon of the Bequia Community High School; Kiara Vanloo of the Dr J.P. Eustace Memorial High School and Evisha May from the Sandy Bay Secondary School.

Tokens of appreciation were also awarded to some of the delegates on Saturday. Anya Frederick did the double by winning the Impromptu Speech and Best Talent, while Chelsia Burke won the Best Interview and Media-friendly award.

The girls will now get ready for the big show, which comes off on October 22, 2011, at the Victoria Park.

On October 23, 2009, Ackelia Cornwall of the St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua became the first ever to win the National Secondary Schools Miss Heritage pageant. Cornwall won the Best Talent, Best Evening Wear and Best Ambassadorial categories to walk away with the crown.

As a result of her win, Cornwall’s CXC subjects were paid for and she also a received a computer and other prizes for her school.
