Uncle Skinny’s doing it for the children

In an effort to foster culture and embrace the youths of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, three time soca monarch champion Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle has conceptualized an event{{more}} which he believes will open a new avenue for children’s entertainment during SVG’s Carnival season.

The event, which targets pre-school, primary and secondary school children, is titled The Scotiabank Uncle Skinny’s Kids Carnival,” is slated for Victoria Park on June 18, and promises to be one of the most memorable events on the carnival calendar.

Not only is it a fair which will feature the usual children’s amusements such the lucky dips, punchboards, interactive games like basketball and ring toss, bouncing castles, trampolines, clowns and magicians, but there will also be a photo station where children will have an opportunity to take pictures with various artistes and well loved characters such as Dora and Elmo throughout the day.

Added to the excitement will be a special children’s concert featuring St. Vincent’s finest soca artistes, including Fire Man Hooper, Luta, Problem Child, Fire Empress, and Skinny Fabulous, as well as several dance groups and an array of young Vincentian talent.

“We want to make sure as many children as possible are included in this event in order to make it a real family affair, and we have created a separate area called the “ Toddlers Ring” which includes bouncing castles games and rides for the smaller children,” says Skinny Fabulous.

Responding to comments about the type of music that patrons can expect at the event, Fabulous says the music that will be played throughout the event will be children friendly and will cover a range to suit various tastes.

The fair commences at 1:00 pm and ends at 7:00pm with a tightly packed concert starting promptly at 6:00pm. It is sponsored by the Carnival Development Corporation, the Bank of Nova Scotia, Digicel, Hot 97, The Searchlight Newspaper, Dekie’s Autozone, Geccu, Singer and the “party people at JENORS.”

Over the coming weeks leading up to the event, there will be many more surprises unveiled. Fabulous plans on using the event as yet another opportunity to showcase young Vincentian talent.

“I was once a young artiste looking for an avenue to showcase my talent. We’re still looking for young performers, so if you believe that your child performs a talent and performs it well, feel free to contact him via facebook or e-mail stickmanentsvg@gmail.com.”

To the children preparing to take the common entrance examination in a few weeks, he encourages them to study extra hard and do their best and join him for the event on June 18.

Tickets go on sale from May 30, 2011, and are only $5 for children and $10 for adults. Ticket outlets are Singer, Kids Plus, Country Grocery-Georgetown, Ocean View Supermarket – Peruvian Vale, Martello Investments – Penniston, Layou Supermarket and Mikey James Bar – Mesopotamia. Once inside the event, activities are priced between $1 and $5, and there are a lot of special prizes to be won.
