Daneil takes Miss Rural SVG crown

As the curtains came down on Vincy Mas 2010 with the Carnival Development Corporation’s presentation of awards{{more}} and prizes on Saturday at the Cruise Ship Terminal, some Vincentians were taking a ‘last lap’ on the Grenadine isle of Canouan.

The island held its very own Carnival activities over the past weekend, with the highlight being the Miss Rural SVG pageant at the Canouan Hard Court on Saturday, July 31.

This event saw the Miss South Windward representative Daneil Soleyn being crowned the competition’s second winner.

Soleyn not only took the crown, but also won the Best Talent and Best Evening Wear in the judged categories, and Miss Congeniality in the pageant contested by four other contestants.

She relegated the Miss West St. George contestant Ronika Medford to the First Runner Up position, with Miss Canouan represented by Sabrina Ollivierre placing Second Runner Up.

Medford was able to take the best Swim Wear title, and Ollivierre Best Interview.

The other contestants were Miss Layou, Rickeisha Douglas, who won Miss Photogenic, and Miss Marriaqua, Cameisha Hunter.

The Canouan Carnival got started last Thursday, July 29, with a club fete at the Planet Hollywood Night Club, and culminated with a street jump up on Monday, August 2, through the streets of Canouan. (JJ)
