Nine beauties in battle for Miss SVG Teen crown

The 7th Annual Miss SVG Teen and SVG Young and Upcoming Designer 2010 will be held this weekend at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex.{{more}}

The show, which takes place on Saturday, April 24, will be contested by delegates from seven of the nation’s secondary schools and is produced by Angenella Young of Le Andre Modelling Agency.

A release from Young said the show is supported by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, and the Ministry of Culture, through their endorsement and sponsorship.

The delegates will make appearances in three categories: Promotional Speech, Cheerleading/Dance and Prom Wear.

The participating schools and delegates are as follows: Dr. J P Eustace Memorial Secondary – Rochelle Edwards; Miss Georgetown Secondary – Nikia October; Miss George Stephens Secondary – Beverna Simmons; Miss Intermediate High School – Shannete Culzac; Miss North Union Secondary – Delonie May; Miss Campden Park Secondary – Catchely Yorke; Miss Sandy Bay Secondary – Shelly-Ann Ballantyne; Miss Petit Bordel Secondary – Umony Hooper; Miss St Clair Dacon Secondary – Kelise Haynes.

For the second year, the Young and Upcoming Design competition will be held on the same night. A release form the show producer said: “The creative Industry in St Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the sectors that are being focused on as one of the areas that can be an income generator for the country. However, since this is a non-traditional area, it needs developing and this development cannot be left only to the government.

“Agencies like the Le Andre modeling Agency and other stake holders must play their part. Since the fashion industry is a focal point at this time, we must look for new ways to encourage the youths in this sector. The fashion industry has had an insatiable need for new creative talents in order to propel itself onward. The objective, therefore, of the SVG Young and Upcoming Design Competition is thus to discover and nurture new talents and new blood in the design industry while provide young aspiring designers with an opportunity to showcase their talents.”

The show will begin at 7:00 p.m.
