Layou community to wrap up it’s festival with queen show, jump up

As a number of rural carnival events around St. Vincent and the Grenadines get set to go, one community will wrap up its festivities with its queen show and jump up this weekend.{{more}}

Seven young women will vie for the title of Miss Layou 2009 as the highly anticipated pageant and show takes place tonight at the Herman Young Hard Court.

Expected to grace the stage is Miss Fruit Cocktail, Athleisha Brandy; Miss Layou Cultural and Sport Association, Dacia Leigertwood; Estina Edwards, Miss Ruddy’s Electrical and Construction Company Ltd; Frickisha Douglas, Miss Nature Care; Miss ICE Group, Shale Neil; Sylvern Brandy, Miss Vitamalt and Zella Drayton, Miss Concrete and Aggregate.

This evening’s function will also feature a cast of all-star performances including Troots ‘n Ice, First Lady, Poorsah and the Milestone Entertainment Dancers, who will entertain the audience with their past and present hits.

The show will be followed by J’Ouvert immediately after on the hard court.

Later that afternoon, revelers will turn out in their numbers for the Saturday jump up.

Accompanied by the music of Crystal Immortal Sounds, the caravan of carnival lovers will move from the Herman Young Hard Court to the main road and back to the hard court via the Plan Road.

Meanwhile, the East St. George and North Windward Carnival festivities are expected to kick off this weekend, with launchings in Calliaqua and Georgetown.

The East St. George festivities begin tonight with action at the Culture Pot Square in Calliaqua, while in Georgetown, a motorcade on Saturday May 23rd at 3:00 p.m. from the Spotlight Stadium will herald the beginning of North Windward celebrations.
