Fifteen-year-old Antoine didnât stop at taking the top prize at the pageant that took place at the Aquatic Club last Friday. She also won Miss Photogenic, Best Talent and Best Interview. Antoineâs only real competition came from South Leewardâs 19-year-old Lindie Billingy who was awarded first runner up, and scooped Best Evening Wear and the Peopleâs Choice prize (voted for by callers on Star 98.3 FM).
Second runner up was Shonelle Nanton (South Windward) and third runner up, Isabelle Clouden (Southern Grenadines), who also won Best Sportswear. Miss Congeniality was awarded to Latoya Lewis (East Kingstown) who, unfortunately, could not take part due to illness.
Judges on the night were June Huggins, Tamara Gibson-Marks and Andrea Edwards. The nine young ladies were judged in the categories of Sportswear, Talent, Evening wear and Interview. The talent section was somewhat of a comical affair, with most contestants performing a monologue combined with either song or dance. Antoineâs monologue was based on being a single mother struggling to raise two children and not being able to find employment. Despite being a serious topic, she was able to deliver it with some levity.
Unity Youths Vice President and Show Coordinator Lisa Joseph described the show as âa resounding successâ. She further stated: âWe are now going to assess this show and prepare for next yearâs pageant, which would also be held on National Heroesâ Day.â
Entertainment was provided by local artiste Bomani, Avenue Dance Juniors, Joannaâs Modelling Agency of Layou, and, in an unscheduled turn of events, a young boy in the audience who danced enthusiastically to every song played.
