Vibrating Scakes ‘taking the challenge to the schools’

In his continued effort to build bridges, Kenneth “Vibrating Scakes” Alleyne entertained the staff and pupils of the Canouan Government School through his annual outreach Independence School Programme.{{more}} He presented a thirty-minute performance of patriotic songs dubbed “Taking the challenge to the schools.”

Scakes’ renditions included “I love you St. Vincent”, “First class citizen”, “Put your foot in the right place”, “Build bridges” and “Our nation is born”, the song which earned him the title of “The First Independence Calypso Monarch” in 1980.

The Canouan Government School is one of the first schools he visited on his third annual Independence schools tour, which began on October 12th and ends on Wednesday, 24th October 2007. Two copies of his CD were presented to Whitney Williams, a Grade 6 pupil of the school for performing the dance to the fanta advertisement, and one to Lisa Frederick, the Grade 6 teacher.

Scakes’ visit was made possible through Digital Music Production Studio in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, the National Lotteries Authority and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).
