SVG gets a taste of Venezuela at Peace Mo
Last week Thursday evening, Vincentians were treated to an evening of music, hosted by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to commemorate that countryâs 196th Anniversary of Independence.{{more}}
Roy Jelinek and his son Roy Adolpho Jelinek held the audience at the Peace Memorial Hall spellbound with their repertoire of South American, Mexican and Caribbean Rythms that include the Meringue, Joropo, Vals (waltz), Parang, Aguinaldo and Calypso.
Roy Senior is a virtuoso Cuatro player and composer from Caracas who began playing the Cuatro at age seven. He has been described as one with incredible ability, versatility and inborn talent.
He has performed worldwide, thrilling large audiences throughout the Caribbean, South, Central and North America and Iran.
Last Thursdayâs performance was Royâs second appearance in St Vincent and the Grenadines,having performed here on a previous visit.
While in SVG, Roy and Adolpho conducted a two hour workshop for young aspiring Cuatro players from the St Marysâ RC Primary School. Roy was accompanied on this visit by his wife.
