SVG Players Juniors tops with Beauty Beneath the Sea
Topping the scores with 733 points for their presentation of âBeauty Beneath the Seaâ, SVG Players International made a splash that washed away other mas bands and anchored them firmly for the second year as the titleholders of the Sylvia Wilson Da Silva Junior Carnival Band winners.{{more}}
SVG Players International Sheriffa Smith, in the Individual 10-15 years category, shone to first place with her portrayal entitled âStar Fishâ while Maya Cato of the same band swam in second in the 5-9 age group with âAngel Fish.â
Adrian Hutchins also of Players stung to 2nd place with his costume dubbed âScorpion Fishâ but Dominique John captured the judges with her miraculous costume called âAnglesâ.
Players settled for 3rd and 4th place with âStar Fishâ and âKing & Queen Angel Fishâ in the Best Junior Section.
Coming in second with 730 points with their spectacular production entitled âParadise in the Grenadinesâ was Blondie Bird and Friends. The mas band also won in the individual 5-9 years category with a creation portrayed by Jelani Niles called âTobago Cays-Scuba Diving.â
In the Individual 10-15 years section, Amunic Martin was 3rd with âTobago Cays Marine Lifeâ, while Ealsha Thomas with her presentation of âMayreau-Salt Whistle Bayâ placed 4th.
In the Best Junior Section, Blondie Bird and Friends was 2nd with âCanouan Regatta.â They placed 5th in the Junior Queen of Carnival category with âParadise in the Grenadinesâ but copped first place in the Junior King competition with âMarine Life in the Grenadines.â
In the 2007 Junior Carnival competition the Wizards mas band took 3rd place overall with 725 points in their presentation entitled âA Land of Dream.â In the other categories, Wizardsâ Shenia Thomas took 3rd place in the Individual 5-9 years, and in the 10-15 years section Felicia Browne with her portrayal of âDream of Loveâ was 2nd. They however placed 1st in the Best Junior Section with âDream of Angels.â Fitzbert Young of Wizards also placed 5th with his costume called âThe Drum-Instrument of Freedom.â
The other mas bands in the 2007 Junior Carnival competition held on June 30 at Victoria Park were 4th placers Dragons – âFrom Shackles to Emancipation,â 5th Nelson Bloc-âCarnival at large,â 6th High Voltage-âTribes of Formosa,â 7th Singer Lynx-âWe Like it So,â 8th My Imagination-âGrenadines Splendor,â 9th Melbourne Artisans-âSirens Nymph and Piratesâ 10th Beautex-âWe Banking,â 11th Owen Ralph & the Professionals-âDreams of Our Livesâ and 12th Tribes Mas Band-âSimply Beautiful.â
