Models strut their stuff on Mijé Carnival Catwalk

A display of colours, fabrics and pure model attitude commanded the audience’s attention at Mije’s Carnival Catwalk 2.{{more}}

Held on Sunday at the Aquatic Club, the show featured clothing and accessory designers alike. Barbadian Toni Thorne of BoUik offered up her ‘Caught on Candy’, a confectionary inspired line for the edgy and unconventional, while Volita Tucker mixed in some ‘Brown Sugar’ with her natural fibred designs.

Having satisfied many a sweet tooth, the models strutted on into the future as they presented ‘Cosmic Bling’ by BoUik Designs, complete with swirls of metallic and blues with just the right amount of funk, and what show would be complete without a trip to ‘Paradise’ with Celeste Johnny of Johnny Vincent, who presented swimwear that guarantees confidence and glamour.

Both Patrice Reddock and Karen Brathwaite added chic with ‘Carnival Classics’ and ‘Cool Vibes’ respectively, while up and coming Karen De Freitas added some ethnic flavour to the stage with her section, ‘Irie Divas’, and with a dash of yellow, green and all colours in between, was Vetty’s ‘Carnival is Colour’.

Not to be forgotten are accessory designers Ingrid John with her ‘Natural Beats’ and Alicia Simmons ‘Accessorize’, as well as the presentation of ‘Get me bodied’ and ‘Sec-rets’ by Mije Designs, compilations that fused dramatic performance and modeling. And to top it all off, ‘Men on the Loose’ by Macho stormed the stage with some suave outfits.

Assistant Producers Jamisha Wright and Aziza Williams commented that despite a few obstacles during coordination, the show exceeded their expectations. As a result of the success, they hope to have another show before the year is out, and are anticipating the return of the Catwalk for the 2008 Carnival season.

The show was sponsored by Nivea, Kismet, Fitness Quest, Hitz fm and SVG TV, and featured a performance in which Fireman Hooper and the Mije models literally shook the stage. (KP)
