19 out to cool Hooper’s fire

When the most anticipated show for Vincy Mas 2007 takes place tomorrow night at the Victoria Park, reigning soca monarch Fireman Hooper may be engaged in his fiercest battle to date.{{more}}

The 19 contenders to the fireman’s crown will be pulling out all the stops entertainment wise, in an effort to dethrone the five time champion, with songs that are guaranteed to have the predictably packed Victoria Park jumping and waving something.

Although all 19 artistes stand a fair chance at toppling the fireman, pundits are leaning towards a female monarch in the form of Zolah, or even Roses Crew sidekick DJ Twenty taking the title.

Other favorites to become the new soca monarch include Bomani, Mad Roy, Icon, Skarpyon, Alla G and Skinny Fabulous.

The other soca finalists selected from last Sunday’s preliminaries are Shaunelle, Lively, Lornette, Johnny Rebel, Land Lord, Rus-T, Dennis Bowman, Squitty, Busta Ski, KGB, and Dani O.

But the self proclaimed “Triple X, Mega Dog, Heavy Metal, Pound For Pound, Undefeated, Undisputed, Unstoppable, Silent, Violent, Weapon Of Mass destruction, Victim of the Tsunami, The Chosen One, Concrete With Steel Reinforcement, and Specially Certified Aggregate, To Be Continued” is not phased.

The Vincy Soca Dans member said that when it comes to his crown, it is going to remain where it is: on his head.

He said that he has every confidence in his fans, and their confidence in him will carry him through to make it six times as supreme ruler of soca.

The hyped entertainer urges all to come out and support him tomorrow night, and for the remaining activities, he calls on all to participate in some way, shape or form. The night of activities will also see the honoring of Granville Straker, who is the godfather of the soca monarch competition, when he organized the All Stars show.

Soca veterans, the Scorcher, Winston Soso and Becket are also scheduled to perform.
