Vincy Foreign Based T-Shirt band coming for carnival

Come carnival Monday this year, the streets of Kingstown will experience the entrance of a new entity. This is a new group called Vincy Foreign Based. Vincy Foreign Based consists of proud Vincentian Culture Enthusiasts living in Brooklyn, New York.{{more}} The members are Gary Weekes, Gregory “Hairoun Man” Oliver, Dale “Big Jim” Lewis, Garry “Tunka” Edwards, Winston “Kopey” Robin, Garnes Byron, and renowned Brooklyn based promoter Junior “Soca” Jones.

The group in presently engaged in a number of Carnival warm-up activities in New York City including a live radio broadcast every Saturday evening at 6:00pm from the Vincy Red Bress Restaurant and Lounge. This involves the display and sale of Vincy Foreign Based T-Shirts and CDs from various New York based Vincentian artists. This function is brought live on 101.5 fm Brooklyn Mix.

On Carnival Monday Vincy Foreign Based introduces their first ever Monday afternoon T-Shirt Band where they promise to offer a different type of street jam. In a recent press release, spokesperson for the group Junior “Soca” Jones said: “We are seeking to reintroduce what a T-Shirt Monday band used to be like. There are many Vincentians, both local and foreign based who have not jumped in a Monday band for a number of years because of the unacceptable behavior that is sometimes associated with the Monday afternoon jump up of recent years. It is with this factor in mind that they are seeking to have a very strong police presence in their band at whatever cost. “The safety and security of our patrons is very high on our list of priorities”. Jones went on to say that “ The music played from the Vincy Foreign Based float will not necessarily focus on Carnival 2007 but portray the 30 years of music that we are now celebrating.” The t-shirt band will be sponsored by Hairoun.

Vincy Foreign Based popularly called VFB has established a website (www. vincyfb.com) which gives background information on the group. T-Shirts for the Monday band can also be bought at the website and will be immediately shipped to the buyer. Also available for purchase on the website are tickets for the all-inclusive all day soca cruise aboard Fantasea tours on the Thursday after the end of the Carnival (July 12th). Tickets for this cruise are very limited. Also included on the VFB calendar are a cool-down party at Club Marcomay on Carnival Tuesday night, a free Bar-B-Q at Club Marcomay on Wed July 11th, a pool party at Rawacou on the night of Friday the 13th and the last lap Carnival Smack down at the Aquatic Club on July 14th. VFB emphasizes that their primary goal is “to help enhance and partner the promotions of Vincentian culture and heritage where ever we go. We encourage all proud Vincentians and friends from around the globe to join us in promoting St.Vincent and the Grenadines.” “We further wish all Vincentians, a safe, peaceful and fun-filled Carnival 2007.
