Queen show, calypso in Petit Bordel

The build up to the 2004 Carnival mounts this weekend in North Leeward. The Petit Bordel Hard Court will be the venue for a double-pronged session tonight, May 21. {{more}}
A queen show featuring contestants from the different communities, and a calypso final will be the high point of the rural celebration. The contestants in the queen show are: Tilesha Small, Miss Fitz Hughes; Nasheca James, Miss Chateaubelair; Moneca DeGrads, Miss Petit Bordel; Seneca Harry, Miss Rose Bank; Jihan Lampkin, Miss Rose Hall; Candace Williams, Miss Coulls Hill; and Milika Seaton, Miss Best Buy Supermarket, Spring Village.
The contestants will appear in swimwear, evening wear and perform a talent. They will introduce themselves and respond to questions.
The calypso segment will see eight bards vying for the crown. They are Singing Rolly, Azzie Bam, Little V, Ochilla, Abujah, Jake I, Lady Lino and Spragga. The band Classic Groovers will provide musical accompaniment.
The programme climaxes tomorrow, Saturday, with the Soca Monarch Compe-tition at the Sharpes Park in Chateaubelair starting at 7 p.m. Guest appearances will be by three-time Soca Monarch champion Roses Crew.
The day’s activity will build up with J’Ouvert morning celebrations from the Chateaubelair Playing Field starting at 4 a.m. And later that afternoon there will be jamming from Chateaubelair to Fitz Hughes and back, in what has been dubbed the “Big Bad Street Jam”.
