Things to consider in your kitchen Pt: 2

We are still discussing things that you can add to your kitchen to make your life easier. Another item you will want to add is a “Heat Extractor Unit”. This is usually placed above the range in the kitchen. Therefore, the cabinet frame has to be specifically designed for it, because of its unusual size. You might want to be careful when selecting the type of Extractor Unit, because there are basically two different types.{{more}} One of them has a pipe that requires you to drill a hole in the wall and pass it through, so that the heat passes straight outside. The other one is mainly a filter with a suction fan which pulls the heat up off the range and filters grease etc. The filter can be removed as often as you like and just rinsed in the sink and then replaced.

You can choose any one of these, but let your designer advise you on the best one, because sometimes depending on the location of your kitchen, using one instead of the other may not be feasible. Another minor but important detail is to always account for a microwave location somewhere in the overhead cabinet. If possible, a location where it would be cheaper for it to share an outlet instead of installing one just for it. Get it off the counter top.

Every space on your counter top should be use for food preparation and not for any appliance storage. Microwaves take up valuable space when they are resting on the counter top. Put them in the overhead cabinet or in the base cabinet, anywhere else except the counter top.
