Deciding on a colour for your kitchen

I know… you are ready to get off of the counter top issue and move onto something else so I’ll conclude the matter this week.

A few months ago we met with a couple who were having their kitchen done. We got to the point of discussing counter top colour choices, and what was supposed to be a 5 minute discussion on choices turned out to be a 4 hour conference of “Wants what she needs, but she would give him what he wants if he understands her needs.{{more}} I’m a green lady, but he loves red, the walls are pink so I can see some brown here” etc, etc, etc. We only give advice to clients on colour choices when asked for our input, so you can imagine my wife and I just sat there staring each other straight in the eyes and sending love note across the table, while playing footsy under it.

I wouldn’t direct anyone to a specific colour, only of course when there are those clients who says to us “You just put the one you think is best”. … Rare occasions… What I would say though, is that you have to take into consideration these key factors when deciding on a colour for your kitchen. First, the colour on the walls, second, the tiles on the floor, even the markings in the tile. Third, the colour of the cabinet and finally, among other things… any highlighted detail that is carried throughout the house. You can forget about what colour turns you on most or what colour you fell in love with when picking out counter tops. Kitchens sing to their own tunes, they are part of an existing structure, they have to fit into that particular environment, so while your colour taste might be appropriate, sometimes it may not fit in with the home décor.
