Does a beautiful kitchen mean an expensive countertop?

We are still talking about counter tops and kitchens! Last week we just scratched the surface with a brief comparison of a few tops, but this week we are going to take a different twist.

Which is more important: having a beautiful and expensive counter top or having a beautiful kitchen?{{more}} We are assuming here that you have to make a choice, and that you can’t have both. Let’s assume further that your budget can either get you a relatively good kitchen but not so good a top. Would you focus on cutting back on the kitchen of your dreams to have the countertop of your dreams or the opposite?

Hmm umm lets see … I know it’s a lot of questions, but this is what I think. Please remember I said it’s what I think, so I could be wrong … not likely though.

People change counter tops every day; it’s a very easy process and it’s a lot cheaper to have your counter tops replaced than the cabinets. The inconvenience is much less and there are so many more options.

Counter tops are sold mostly by the square foot. For all of my good friends out there who are about to build and don’t know what a square foot is, it is the same size of the 12” x12” tiles you’re standing on right now. Focus on getting the cabinet of your dreams for right now, and if you can’t afford to buy a good quality counter top now, then choose a cheap affordable top “that would not allow water to get to the cabinets”. This is very important, as the cheap countertop is just a temporary fix, so we wouldn’t want any damage to be done to the cabinet. Then, when you “catch up yo hand” like old people say, you can go and cut style and pick out the top you always wanted!

Trust me! Do the first thing first. Don’t buy the top and then you can’t finish your kitchen.
