My pastor is cheating on his wife

Hey Rosie,

I belong to a very large church in the USA and I have made some great friends with the sisters and brothers of my church. However, after two and a half years as a member of this congregation, I’ve discovered that the pastor, who is very young, drives a fancy car and has a very good looking wife, is cheating all over the place.{{more}} In fact, I think there are a couple of women here that have children for him.

I am so disgusted that I can’t even look at him, much less shake his hand, because I can see how he’s always eyeing the women and young girls and I have a feeling his wife knows as well, but she enjoys the spotlight and lifestyle, so she’s not trying to rock the boat!

Rosie, would you stay because of the fellowship and the feeling of community? Or would you go because the leader of this church is corrupt? I am so confused. Help me please!

Thanks,

A Believer

Hello A Believer,

Like you, I am very much on board of being a part of a congregation and hearing/learning about the word of God. I can also understand your disappointment as well in terms of your pastor; forgive me, he seems to be a creep. But you know what, the Lord lives everywhere. He lives in the meanest people, he lives in the saddest places and he also lives in the misguided and dishonest pastor.

This is what I would do; you should ask yourself if the word of God is fuelling your soul at this church. If the answer is yes, I would stay and continue to pray for your pastor and the church. You might be in a situation that the Lord is showing you the lesson of redemption. Who knows? But I would be still and listen to that inner voice.

I also do agree that you should keep your distance. Why put yourself in the way of confusion? He seems to be a magnet for it at this time. So, at the end of the day, it’s about using your common sense and making a determination of what is good for you. Also, keep in mind there is no bigger place for gossip than the church! So, sprinkle that into your decision-making as well.

I wish you nothing but the very best and many blessings to you.

Rosie
