Girls’ High School saying no to drugs

Seventy-five Girls High School students will be saying “NO” to drugs.

They were the participants in the all-day symposium held at the school last Saturday, part of the Ministry of Health/European Union anti-drug crusade for adolescents.{{more}}

They were enlightened about the dangers of drug use and its deleterious effect on the human body by Dr Karen Providence, a medical officer at the Mental Health Centre.

She delivered shock treatment to the attentive young ladies when she related horror stories about instances of drug addiction related mental illnesses that she encounters among adolescents.

Also addressing the eager young lasses were counselors Jasmine Creese and Allan Burnett.

Staff Nurse Kathleen Sandy also spoke to them.

The symposium was part of the EC$2 million project that is funded by the European Union’s “Drug Demand Reduction Program.”

Teachers of the school, La Toya Deroche and Antoinette Fraser facilitated the symposium and were very pleased about what was accomplished in the symposium.
