No official report of local fishers accosted by US Coast Guard says National Security Minister

There has been no official report that Vincentian fishermen plying their trade in this country’s Exclusive Economic Zone were accosted by United States of America (USA) Coast Guard personnel.

This is the word from Minister of National Security Major St. Clair Leacock, who was asked during a press briefing on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 if claims made by Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves that fishermen were stopped by USA Coast Guard officials were factual.

Speaking on radio this week, Dr. Gonsalves said that members of the US Coast Guard recently stopped Vincentian fishers at sea demanding to see their identification papers to ascertain they were indeed fishermen.
