Samuel brothers each fined over $11,000 for drugs
Two brothers from Chateaubelair were ordered to cough up over $11,000 each in six months for illegally possessing and trafficking over 26,000 grammes of cannabis.
Desroy Samuel appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate Colin John, on March 17, 2026 where he pleaded guilty that on January 26, 2025, at Chateaubelair, he had in his possession a controlled drug to wit 454 grammes of cannabis with intent to supply it to another.
Desroy was also charged that alongside his brother Kemon, he had in his possession 26,786 grammes of cannabis- a controlled drug- with intent to supply it to another; and for the purpose of drug trafficking.
The facts are that on the date in question at about 4:15 p.m, Sgt 615 Williams acting on information received, headed a team of police officers from the Chateaubelair Police Station and Rapid Response Unit to the Samuels’ home to execute a search warrant.
They met the men on the public road, where the police showed and read a warrant to them. They then accompanied the police to their homes and a search was conducted in Desroy’s bedroom where a transparent, sealed package with an aluminum wrapping was found inside a pink clothes basket.
After he was cautioned, Desroy said, ‘officer ah weed.’ The offence of possession of a controlled drug was then pointed out to him.
A further search of the clothes basket was made, and a transparent plastic bag containing money was found. After Desroy was cautioned, he replied, “officer the money from fishing”.
Williams then searched a bathroom which was located downstairs, and found nine taped packages under the cupboard of the face basin.
