“Damn foolishness” says Gonsalves of fire accusations
“Damn foolishness”, and “nonsensical rubbish” are two terms Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has used to describe allegations on social media that the Unity Labour Party (ULP) had something to do with the fire that destroyed the Calliaqua Police Station.
“…typical of the NDP crazies you know. Is Ralph, is Ralph, is Ralph. I mean- and then, they put in the Questelles Government School…I mean, come on, stop this damn foolishness, nonsensical rubbish,” Dr. Gonsalves told listeners of Star Radio on Monday March 16, 2026.
A number of persons commenting on social media have sought to put the blame for the devastating fire that gutted the police station on Friday, March 13, 2026 at the feet of the ULP.
On March 14, 2026 the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), in a press release, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Athland Browne, and Inspector Bjorn Duncan have been assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
“Fire Brigade personnel responded to the incident and, upon arrival, the building was observed engulfed in flames. Despite firefighting efforts, the structure was completely destroyed. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident,” the release stated.
“A Toyota Hiace minibus, which was parked in close proximity to the building, sustained partial damage to its interior…”
