Senator John says he’s no product of the education revolution
HE UNITY LABOR PARTY’S (ULP) ‘Education Revolution’ has been given a failing grade by government Senator and Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jemalie John.
During his maiden speech in parliament on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 John, a lawyer, said he entered the St Vincent Grammar School (SVGS) in 2002 and moved to the St Vincent Community College (SVCC) in 2007, but he did not benefit from the education revolution.
The ULP administration began rolling out its “Education Revolution” in 2001, focusing on universal access- from early childhood to tertiary levels. Key initiatives include 100% access to early childhood education, mandatory secondary education, expansion of the SVCC, investment in technical- vocational training (TVET), and over 60% of teachers being university graduates and teacher trained.
Making his contribution to the 2026 Budget, Senator John said the Girls High School (GHS) in Richmond Hill was left to deteriorate to a point that it has had to remain closed for over five years.
