Netball Association awaits blow-back from Government’s decision on hosting Americas Netball Tournament
THE ST. VINCENT and the Grenadines Netball Association is awaiting a response from the Americas Federation of Netball Associations- referred to as Americas Netball-about likely sanctions following their communication to that body of their withdrawal as host of the World Cup Netball Qualifier later this year.
SEARCHLIGHT understands that the SVGNA’s letter to Americas Netball was sent following verbal notification by Minister of Sports, Kashchaka Cupid in January, 2026 of this country’s inability to host the Netball Qualifier. The minister later formally informed the Association of the decision of the current government “not to proceed” with hosting the Americas World Cup Netball Qualifier, scheduled for October, 2026. The government’s position was contained in a February 7, 2026 release issued by the Minister of Sports in which he also explained that the decision was taken following careful consideration by Cabinet which “… reviewed a detailed report outlining the requirements associated with hosting the tournament…”.
The release stated further that the “limited time frame available would not allow for the satisfactory completion of the infrastructural upgrades required to meet regional and international competition standards”.
