Minister to look into complaints made by prisoners
DURING A RECENT VISIT to His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) in Belle Isle, several complaints made by prisoners are worth looking into, while it was acknowledged that the authorities at HMP have been struggling with several of these issues for a while.
Minister of National Security, Major St. Clair Leacock speaking on NBC radio on Wednesday, January 29, 2026 made this point while noting that his Ministry will tackle some of these issues.
Leacock said that he and a team visited the HMP days earlier, on January 26, 2026 and while visits to the prisons are never pleasant, they are revealing.
“I didn’t meet a person who was incarcerated or who was behind bars, as we like to say, who doesn’t feel worse off for being there. ”
