Winning election does not give you ‘unrestrained, unshackled, unbounded executive power’, says Opposition Leader
Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has made clear that winning an election does not give a political party “unrestrained, unshackled, unbounded executive power.”
He raised this issue while speaking on Star Radio on Monday, February 2, 2026 during which he accused the New Democratic Party (NDP)administration of wanting to remove Dr. Grace Walters from her position as Hospital Administrator.
Dr. Walters was the candidate for Dr.Gonsalves’ Unity Labour Party (ULP), in the November, 2025 general elections, and during the campaign, came under fire from ULP candidates, including the then shadow minister of Health, Daniel Cummings, who is the current Minister of Health in the Dr. Godwin Friday administration.
On radio, Dr. Gonsalves said he was currently writing a text to inform the general public of the power and authority that is bestowed upon the government as it relates to civil servants and their jobs.
