Man dies in hospital after falling from building under construction
The lack of appropriate Occupation Health and Safety (OHS) practices came to the fore on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 when Lemorne “Spanny” Baptiste, a 39-year-old construction worker of Chilli, Georgetown, fell to his death in Villa.
Baptiste was working on the steel frame of a four-storey building when he is said to have received an electrical shock that threw him from the structure to the ground about 30 feet below. He was not wearing a safety harness as is the OHS protocol worldwide.
After the fall which happened sometime after 2:00 p.m., Baptiste was taken, by ambulance, to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) where he succumbed to his injuries.
