700 people still in gov’t paid housing, says Leacock
GOVERNMENT SAYS it cannot just “throw out” people who are still in rental housing being paid for by the public purse, but also acknowledges that this cannot continue indefinitely.
When Hurricane Beryl struck on July 1, 2024, the then Unity Labour Party (ULP) administration, in an effort to house people, had to place some of those affected in hotels, guest houses and other rented accommodation.
The New Democratic Party (NDP) administration has inherited the issue, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Disaster Management and Immigration St. Clair Leacock revealing last week that 700 people still remain in rental accommodation being paid for by my government.
