Gov’t to pay bonuses by January30

THE DR. GODWIN FRIDAY administration will be making bonus payments to an estimated 12,000 public workers, and that money will be paid by Friday, January 30, 2026.

And, while many people are calling the salary bonus “a cost to government” Dr. Friday said the payments, which will amount to around EC$21 million, is “a transfer into people’s pockets”.

“It’s money in people’s pockets. That’s $21 million that the ordinary taxpayers are basically saying, ‘this is money that will be put in the pockets of people in this country that they can use to make their lives better’…,” Dr. Friday said at a press conference in Kingstown on January 23, 2026.

“They will spend it here. They’re not going on a cruise somewhere. They’re not going to buy a rocket ship. They’re going to spend it here in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, and that will be a stimulus as well to the economy,” the prime minister stressed.
