Government to close Milton Cato Memorial Hospital

MINISTER OF HEALTH, Daniel Cummings, has lauded the health infrastructure in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), and disclosed that the New Democratic Party administration will close the Milton Memorial Hospital (MCMH), placing it instead on the compound of the Acute Referral Hospital, currently under construction at Arnos Vale.

“…we are really strange with six hospitals for the small population, six hospitals and several polyclinics and district clinics… very well served we are with district clinics and poly clinics, Cummings said at a press conference on Friday, January 23, 2026, following a visit as part of a government team to the Acute Referral Hospital.

“The issue is, for such a small population whether in fact it makes sense to have so many hospitals…,” Cummings, as he compared the facilities in SVG very favourably with what obtains in other countries of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
