Merchants happy with SVG’s first VAT-free Shopping Day
ST.VINCENT ANDTHE GRENADINES’ first-ever VAT-free shopping day has been hailed a success by local merchants, as consumers flocked their businesses to take advantage of the one-day tax reduction.
On Friday, December, 19 2025 Kingstown was crammed with shoppers carrying bags of groceries, toys, and home appliances as they took advantage of the nation’s first VAT-free shopping day.
Manager at Coreas City Store, Jean Johnney-Findlay, told SEARCHLIGHT that the VATfree Friday is a good initiative, and added and that Coreas received a steady flow of customers when they opened their doors at 7:00 a.m.
“Customers still weren’t too sensitized with how the pricing would go, but we’ve been showing them [that] when you check your bills, you see zero dollars for VAT.”
