Former PM Gonsalves not entitled to a security detail while still active in politics – Leacock
OPPOSITION LEADER, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, has been allocated a driver who is a police officer, but no security detail. This follows a promise by the Deputy Prime Minister, Major St Clair Leacock on radio last Monday, December 8, 2025 where he said the matter would be reviewed and a decision taken by weekend.
On BOOM 106.9 FM’s morning radio show with host, Dwight “Bing” Joseph, the Minister of National Security said that during that week the issue of security will be dealt with, and the Opposition Leader will get only that to which he is entitled.
Leacock said that does not include police security at the home of the Opposition Leader, but may include one or two private security detail.
“…he had a detail with as many as six policemen with that detail even including an inspector; he’s not entitled to that,” Leacock stated emphatically.
