Elections code holding, despite some challenges
SECRETARY OF THE Christian Council, Godfrey Samuel, has noted that the work of the National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism (NMCM),has been progressing quite well, though there are some issues that have arisen from time to time.
Samuel told SEARCHLIGHT in an interview on Monday, November 24, 2025 that despite these few challenges, the General Elections Code of Conduct is generally being upheld by the political parties since they signed it on November 4, 2025. One area of concern has been the destruction of billboards, which is a violation of the Code.
“A number of bill boards throughout the country have been destroyed and that is something we have to deal with,” said Samuel, who also is the co-ordinator of the National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism (NMCM), which falls under the remit of the Christian Council said.
“Also, you find sometimes the chair persons or the politicians throw jabs at their opponents which is really not in keeping with the code,” Samuel pointed out.
