Media visionary, Paul McLeish dies
St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) has lost one of its iconic media visionaries with the death of Paul MacLeish who passed away on Tuesday, November 4,2025.
MacLeish is considered a pioneer of free-to-air television in SVG as in 1980, he, along with six other people, bought the assets of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Television network, a television station that existed long before Cable T.V.
At the beginning of the company, MacLeish was the only staff member but since then, the company, St Vincent and the Grenadines Broadcasting Corporation (SVGBC), has grown, employing over 20 full time staff and a host of other part timers. SVG Broadcasting Corporation comprises SVGTV and Magic FM, formerly HITZ FM.
News Editor of SVGBC, Rochelle Baptiste, in a WhatsApp message to SEARCHLIGHT on Thursday, November 6,2025, said the entire staff of the SVG Broadcasting Corporation is deeply saddened by the passing of their Managing Director.
“For decades, Paul was the driving force and the glue that held our organization together. His vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment shaped SVGBC into the institution it is today. Broadcasting was not just his profession, it was his passion and his life’s work,” Baptiste shared.
