New heavy equipment arrives for new Port
New heavy equipment was transported to the $700-million New Modern Port in capital, Kingstown, on Sunday, October 19, 2025 in readiness for its official opening on October,2025.

Among the pieces of new equipment was a new mobile harbour crane with a 125-ton lifting capacity to work alongside another crane that was already in place.

Scanners, road sweepers as well as forklifts were also moved to the port. Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves speaking at a brief ceremony at the port on Sunday spoke of needing $40 million to procure the new equipment which was purchased with government support and an input from the SVG Port Authority. He also spoke of other developments for the seafront once the new port facility becomes operational. These include infrastructural projects at the site of the existing port. He made the link between the new projected turn-around time for ships- to be slashed by 50% and how that would ultimately positively impact the proce of goods.
