Union Island Ferry Terminal and Market opens
Amidst the on-going recovery from the destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl in 2024, residents on Union Island saw the opening of a new Ferry Terminal and Market at the weekend.
The new facility at Clifton, in the Southern Grenadine island, opened on Saturday,October 11, 2025, at an official ceremony.
Following the passage of the destructive category-4 hurricane on July, 1, 2024, the ferry site was a spectacle of debris and chaos, but, though not fully completed, the new Union Market and Ferry Terminal is seen as an important addition to the on-going recovery and enhancement on the island.
“It brings me great joy as Minister with the responsibility for Grenadines Affairs to welcome you to this historic occasion, the official handing over ceremony of the Ferry Terminal and Market. Today is more than a ceremony. It is a celebration of renewal, resilience, and community pride,” Minister of Urban Development, Energy, Seaports, Grenadines Affairs and Local Government, Senator Benarva Browne, said at the ceremony.
“ After the destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl, many wondered how quickly normal life could return. But as we see today, the spirit of Union has been proven unbreakable. Together, we have turned recovery into opportunity, hardship into hope.”
