Jones ought to be found guilty, says Prosecutor
THE PROSECUTOR in a court case where Radio DJ, Christopher Jones, aka 2-Kool Chris, has been charged for wounding, has argued that Jones’ actions were excessive on the night he allegedly shot a fisherman three times about his body, and said Jones “ought to be found guilty” of the offence.
Jones appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika Mckenzie on September, 29 2025, where she heard the closing submissions from both Jones’ lawyer, Grant Connell and Prosecutor, Shamrock Pierre.
Jones is charged that on July 4, 2024 at Bay Street, Kingstown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kevin Patterson, a 31-yearold fisherman of Largo Height, by shooting him in his hip, left hand, and right leg with a gun.
In his submissions, Prosecutor Pierre said that a police officer was at the Central Police Station when he heard the explosions.
He said though Jones claimed to be threatened, the officer met him with the firearm in his hand. Pierre added that the officer asked Jones to hand over his firearm twice, but Jones testified that he refused, in the heat of the moment.
“It tells me that the defendant was aggressive,” Pierre told the court. He said that though Patterson may have a mental illness, he is still a human being and is somebody’s son or brother who should be treated as such.
The prosecutor also told the court that the defence never disputed that a firearm was used to shoot Patterson three times, and yet, the defence is claiming that Jones acted out of self defense.
Pierre argued that self defense should be tested both objectively and subjectively. He added that subjective self defense considers the state of mind that the defendant was in when the offence was committed, and that the defendant must genuinely believe that force was needed to defend himself.
Pierre recounted that Jones said he was playing music in Heritage Square where bottles were being thrown at him. However, Jones did not know where the first bottle came from, nor did he know who threw the second one.
