Defense counsel argues ‘2-Kool Chris’ acted in self defense
THE LAWYER representing Christopher Jones also known as ‘2 Kool Chris’ in a wounding matter, asked the court this week whether his client was supposed to wait until a weapon was pulled for him to respond in his own defense.
Grant Connell informed the court that Jones was receiving death threats from an unknown man and asked the court if he was to wait until the man pulled a weapon in order for the radio announcer to defend his life.
Jones, 56, of Richmond Hill, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika Mckenzie on Monday, September, 29, 2025, where she heard the closing submissions from both Connell, and Prosecutor, Shamrock Pierre.
Jones is charged that on July 4, 2024, at Bay Street, Kingstown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kevin Patterson, a 31-year-old fisherman of Largo Height, by shooting him in his hip, left hand, and right leg with a gun. Connell began his submissions by quoting Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley: “In the absence of truth, trust deteriorates. When we lack truth and we lack trust, law becomes theatre, news becomes spectacle, and science becomes just another opinion”.
He told the court that Prosecutor, Pierre had successfully meandered around the evidence in this case.
Connell, who called the case a trial of public opinion, argued that the arresting officer fell short of proper policing, and acted under the instruction of Commissioner of Police, Enville Williams.
The lawyer said that the officer failed to secure the offensive weapon, and was only aware of the weapon when it was handed to him.
